It is a difficult task for the musician to take the listener into his world. Like Herding Cats has done this flawlessly.
Like Herding Cats, the concept as well as the solo EP itself, materialized out of experiences in Dom P.’s personal and professional life while performing with Brooklyn bands The Rowboats, The Hong Kong and touring members of St. Vincent, and Dean & Britta. Released through TuneCore on December 13, 2013, the five-song, self-titled debut EP, running 17 minutes, is often compared to dream pop and contemporary chillwave artists such as Washed Out and MGMT. The record was written and produced by Dom P., edited and mixed by Mod at Mod Alien Music Studios (guitarist and songwriter for Elefant, Ape Fight, DMT Frequencies) and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Studios (Sufjan Stevens, Beach House, Kurt Vile).
In May 2014, Like Herding Cats won The Deli magazine’s Artist of the Month award. A few months later Kevin McAdams, of Elefant, joined the band on drums, Tim Jansen, of The Hourly Radio, on bass, and former band mate Sebastian Briglia of New Wave and The Art magazine, joined on guitar. The four have since been collaborating on new material, and are taking their dynamic live act on tour through the East Coast and beyond in Summer 2015 while preparing to record a full-length album.
This fluid masterpiece of New Wave chill is a breathtaking project, perfect for a chill-party atmosphere.
Like Herding Cats is an amazing debut for Dom P. It is unique and emotionally invested. Between concepts of setting trends and leaving a past love behind, it is a sonic expression of waining, wanting, and desire.
This 17 minute EP will leave you hopeful for the future. It is a difficult task for the musician to take the listener into his world. Dom has done this flawlessly.
If you are lucky enough to live some place warm, don’t worry you too will be excited by this 17-minute infectiously hopeful piece of work.
The mood is gentle and dreamy, like early Depeche Mode, or The Magnetic Fields' Stephin Merritt, with whom the band shares a pensive lightheartedness.
...Like Herding Cats, a chilled electro-indie project conceived by New York artist Dom P. This debut five-track EP is full of sunshine and dreamy textures, and it wastes no time in letting you know.
This sound is worth keeping up with. I see a career path in Dom P. similar to LCD Soundsystem‘s James Murphy–a single vision of a debut album just itching to be taken live, so it could grow into a cultural revolution.
...in [Like Herding Cats] debut EP are five songs in a style and a personal stamp that we like, that sort of techno pop minimalist, where the music goes with nostalgic beauty of dye through dreamy essence keyboards and soft guitar arpeggios. The same thing we liked about Vitesse or Casiotone For The Painfully Alone.
